Default Good idea? - levels acting like sections

    Hi all,

just had a thought (it has probably been covered before, but here goes...)

Wouldn't it be far easier to control view depth in a floor plan if when in a section or elevation view, you click on the level line, and it displays how far down it views and where it is viewing from? (exactly the same as when you click on a section and it shows you how far it views)

Just seems so obvious to me.

    What do you all think?

    Max.

Problem is while level/plan views are tied explicity to a level, a level is not in fact a view... So, I'm not sure how the programmers would handle that. I think I would rather be able to "show view" in the same way that you can make the camera for a 3D view appear in all other views, plan/section/elevation. I do like the idea of being able to strecht and adjust a plan view graphically the same way we can with sectoins and elevations. I also wish that sections and elevations had all the numerical parameters that plan views do.

    Hmmm.

I think the answer to that problem is simply that when you click on the level (as you do with an elevation marker, it leaves the original 'symbol' where it is, then shows you a blue line (cut line) and the dashed lines indicate the view depth.

I think exactly the same could apply to a level?

Just nicer doing things graphically instead of punching in numbers.

And while all this coding is happening, please make sure we can change the associated level of a plan view!

I agree. I find the view level dialogue difficult. A graphical interface like the section cuts would be wonderful.
I also want to throw in this: I'd like to be able to cut a section with no depth at all, so that I can snap to lines and intersections. I'm still used to trying to dimension sections as if I were in AutoCAD, where a 2-d section is a section with no depth, but a real representation of the 3-d location of objects at that section plane. I'd like to be able to dimension the height of a sloped wall at a grid intersection, for instance.
