Default Hold down Shift key to deselect Objects not working

When I select objects, I used to be able to hold down the shift button and add or remove objects. I can not do this now for some reason. Does anybody know how to turn this setting on or is there a variable somewhere that I am missing? Thanks in advance

    Gary

I believe you are looking for the PICKADD variable.

Also, some verticals such as Raster Design have an option to change the behaviour of shift+left click. If you change this setting, it will change how AutoCAD will allow the de-select option.

It's not pickadd. Thanks for the reply though.

If I have 5 objects, i select 3 of them, i want to select one more and deselect another, I can hold down the shift button and select the object that i want removed, and then go back and select only the one that i missed without deselecting everything else. Does this make sense or am i way out there?

What do you mean by verticals? I have this problem in several dwg's if that makes a difference.

    Thanks for the responses.

Verticals are products added to AutoCAD. I use Raster Design on top of AutoCAD.

In options (on the format menu), go to the selection tab. Do you have noun/verb selection ticked? Also ensure there is not a tick in use shift to add to selection.

noun/verb selection is ticked, and there is not a tick in "use shift to add to selection". Thanks for the reply, though. Would it help to reboot my machine?

    It shouldn't hurt.

My company has got way too many programs on this computer and it takes forever rebooting. I was kinda hoping there was another way but oh well, we'll give it a shot.

Well the reboot fixed the problem, but I'd still like to know what the problem was just so I know. If any of y'all have any suggestions, let me know. Thanks!
