    Question Re: Fire Rating Solution

When it comes to radial arrays, Revit doesn't make things very simple But you're on the right track. The geometry that you need to edit is in the first nested family, which then has to be reloaded into the second level, then the third, then the 4th. If it's not behaving properly it means somethings has been changed and not properly constrained/connected. Post an example of what you're trying to get to like a pdf or jpg of the desired result/pattern and I'll see if it's easy to edit.
Sigh, I've made some progress, figured out I wasn't attaching all the parameters. All I'm trying to do RIGHT NOW is to make the minor change of converting the lines in Curved Line1.rfa to solid fills, then work through nesting it into the upstream families. If you look at the Curved Lines1.rfa I posted on 2/22/2011 I think you'll see that. I can get it into Curved Host1.rfa, then I make sure all the parameters are related correctly. That seems to work. But when I try to load that into Curved Detail2 and array it, it doesnt array exactly as it shows in your Curved Detail2.rfa. Using all the same parameters as in your project, I get an array of 15 to make it look right, and the array begins at the end off array group 1 instead of at the beginning.

I'm trying to do this a step at a time so that I can understand it. I'll re-upload the latest files.

Would be great to gather some more thoughts and ideas over in the Revit R&D forum. If you're interested in continuing the discussion please see our FireTape post in that forum

Please express your ideas there! We need to get beyond these ridiculous drafting methods and on to a more "BIMy" solution, which Autodesk is allocating 0 resources towards.

if anyone is interested i made a series of fire tapes based on the NCS i am more than happy to share out there for anyone to use. i put in a few hours on these with a lot of trial and error. i tried to use the example files from dbaldacchino to start but found it easier to just rebuild them from scratch, although dbaldacchino your files were extremely helpful in seeing how revit worked with these kinds of formulas so thanks, don't know if i could have done these without your unknowing help

you can see them at work in this youtube video i put up for some other people.. around 5:15 are the curved examples.

if there is any interest i will upload them for use.

    cheers.

Nice work! Glad you were able to reverse-engineer my examples.

I'm wondering if anyone has found an advancement with fire rating plans. I do a bulk of my healthcare plans for life safety, smoke compartments, egress plans etc. and the best I've been able to see if using the wall types coarse fill patterns and filters to display wall ratings. We typically use detail components like you have Phyllis that are just draw on top of the walls, so I was wondering if anyone knows a way to use these detail components built into the fill patterns? I have all the fire pattern files, but its just lines with dashes and that's not user friendly when trying to do plan review with dhs. Any further development??
