    Default Metal Standing Seam Roof

I am trying to make a render and do not have a material for Standing Seam roof. Can someone help me out here or itleast tell me where to find one. It will red by the way if that matters. This is the closest material that I have found and I have no idea how to make my own. Thanks

Try this bitmap. It's courtesy of Marling Studios (in their free samples section). The original is green; I just used Photoshop to change the color...

Another option I use is "sloped glazing". You can set grid lines for seams and set mullions for battens. Or create you own family mullion for exacting types. Apply this over you roof structure, pick a material and WOW!

If you want an accurate rendering, you'll have to use the glazed roof option to control the location of the standing seams. Accurender's location of bitmaps on the roof will not properly align the seams where planes adjoin (hip and ridge). Also note that using the glazed roof option also gives you shadows for the seams on the roof. The bitmap will not. If you are simply showing the overall image with a metal roof, use the bitmap.

Glazed roof option is over my head, so will just try and find a bitmap that is close enough. Thanks all

Did a rendering with such a roof...

Make sure the bump is at 1 on the texture's image.

I second the Sloped Glazing tool for doing an 'accurate rendering' of SS metal roof. Accurender can only handle up to a certain amount of Bump control, unlike Max/Viz, so you have to weigh your options. Play around with it in a small test file until you get the hang of the different parameters.

I'm including an image of mine that I used this technique to make accent roofing on a project of mine. Essentially, I made a standard shingle roof (or generic, 4" thick) where I want my roof. As I need some underdlayment there anyway, this will stay. I then copied this roof and moved it 'up' a few inches, then converted it to a Sloped Glazing roof. Just select it and change it's properties in the Pulldown. Now all you need to do is make and place the desired 'mullion' shapes per your roof. As for the materials - I keep it simple.... REAL simple... don't over do this or it will look really, really, bad. Use only one for the roof and the mullions - let the shadows do the rest.

    Hope this helps.
