    Default Trim extension lines

I dont know why you would want to do this, but one of my friends at another firm wants to know if you can trim the extensions lines. He has some that overlap, and although I believe they need to extend to the object that you are dimensioning, his boss thinks it looks cleaner when they are trimmed. Any suggestions?
Why is it called common sense when it is so rare?

Few questions: Can you please explain further about where he wants to trim the extension lines? At the ends where they begin extending from or at the ends closest to the dimension line? How does the overlap you mentioned affect what he's trying to achieve?

The usual drafting convention that I've seen would be that the extension line begins about 1/16" away from the object and extends 1/6" past the dimension line.

Sorry if I am of no help because I work with Revit Building and ACAD 2007. From what I understand, ACAD is similar to ADT. But here goes...He cannot "trim" extension lines" but can adjust the spacing in the Properties or Dimension Styles and adjust the "Extension Offset" to zero.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I think he has dimensions at differnent angles and they are overlapping. For some strange reason, his boss likes them to be trimmed. I agree with you, they should be about 1/16 away from the object. I think its a mistake to "trim" them. It actually makes the plan harder to read in my opinion.

I dont think there is any way to trim the extension lines (and there shouldn't be, really). I'll just tell him to do it however he's been doing it. Probably with the grip edits.

    Hello Dan,

This is the closest thing I could come up with the forum search facility. Although I’m not sure if it’s going to be of help in ADT 2007, ~Shrug~, only use LT 2007 myself.

Editing one by one sounds a tedious way of doing it, have you thought of using a LISP routine, this could globally update all the dimensions in the drawing. This discussion explains a little what I’m thinking of.
    ~Just a thought, hope it's of some help.~

I may be way off base here, but are you using regular AutoCAD dimensions? If so, have you looked at the DIMEXE and DIMEXO system variables?
