Default Modelspace and Paperspace, what is your company practice to its use?

We are involved in a large multi-discipline project and are having problems with paper/model space issues.

One camp (piping) thinks that every thing should be placed in model space and the only thing in paper is the titleblock.

The other group is for placing only the geometry in model and all annotation in paper.

Your thoughts on this issue please?

    Dave

    Geometry in model.
Annotation in model, but in a separate file over the xref'ed background.
Titleblock, north arrow, general notes - paperspace.

    Hi Dave

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the Local Chapters - General forum to this one, as I feel this particular forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

    Thanks, Mike

    I use the same method.

I have to go with Aaron on this one... you'll hear arguments either way, but going with that method usually works best I've found.

    hmmm, interesting...

for mechanical drawings i'dd go for annotations on paperspace - since a few autocad releases back you can place dimentions associative to the object in modelspace - if the model changes, the dimensions in paperspace will to, also the dims are created with a 1/1 scalefactor. I think this a very handy.

But offcourse - i haven't met lots of autocaduser who know about this workflow - and therefore they might malfunction the drawing by doing the wrong actions

Have a look at these threads:

Draw in both model and paper space

    Modelspace v Paperspace

Where I work, we use Modelspace for general design and paper space for the titleblock and notes.

In a slightly longer answer than I gave above:

We have tried annotation in Paper Space, it gave us problems in locating relavant note blocks with Model Space information, I know that you can do this in theory, but it does not really work in practice, especially when designs are changing quickly and radically, so we always create a Model file for our design and annotate in Model Space in a Sheet file.

The only objects in Paper Space are the Title Block and General notes that are not related to objects on the Model.

What's a sheet file? - does it work in acad2005 and in LT versions?

and if you dimension in modelspace...
when making a new viewport for a detail. The dimension made in de the model scale with the detail and looks too big. What is your solution to this?
