Question How to set Floating Viewport scale to something like 1”=30’ or 1”=300’

I know that I should know the answer to this but I don’t. I use viewports everyday, but always set to them either ¼”=1’-0” or 1/8”=1’-0”. I just use the option in the properties dialog box to set them and lock the viewport.
Now I need to set them to be in a civil scale, something like 1”=30’ or 1”=300’. I have tried several times today but with no luck. Can someone please help?

    Thanks

Convert your viewport scale to a direct ratio (1"=30' is 1:360 for example) and enter the ratio in the viewport scale box.

    Another method:

Go into the viewport, run the ._ZOOM command, _Center option, pick a point that will be in the center of the viewport, then enter a scale factor of 1/30XP (for 30 scale). It does not matter if the picked point is exact, since once the scale is set you can pan the viewport contents into place.

If you are using Map, you can run the ._AECDWGSCALESETUP command, and easily change the "scale list" to reflect typical civil scales such as 1"=30'.

    Should that be 1/360XP ?

not necessarily, typically for civil, everything is drawn using decimal units, so in a 1 to 1 environment, 1 unit is equal to 1 foot, so the view port needs to be at 1/30XP

Okay, I don't do civils but the OP mentioned 1"=30'.

SCALELISTEDIT will bring up a dialogue box to edit VP scale options. if you enter that into the help file it should answer any questions. if it is only one VP, it may not be worth it, but if you use a scale frequently its a great time saver.

A different way. I have a vba routine on the Exchange called SetViewportScale. It allows you to zoom to the approximate view and it chooses the nearest standard scale. You can select from Engineering, Metric or Architectural standard scales.
