Default white text on transparent background

When I create a new type of text for a label I want the text to be white and the background of the text be clear (because I have a dark gray filled region behind it), but when I select white and transparent the text shows up black and the background transparent, and when I select white and opaque the text shows up white and the background black. What's going on?

Try using RGB 254,254,254. It's not true white but will show up as if it was and Revit won't try to change it to black.
