Default Electrical Schematic Symbol to Device

    Hai,

Does anyone knows how to convert the Schematic style based symbol to Electrical Device Eg. iam having a schematic symbol in my drgs. and i would like to assign load and circuit if it is a schematic symbol this does not permit me to assign, so i would like to change that Schematic symbol to an Electrical Device,

    Thanking you in advance

    Hi Binu,

If your schematic symbol is a block (and I'm assuming it is) the procedure is pretty simple.

NOTE: If you only need the device in your current drawing you can do the following procedure in that drawing. However, if you would like to use the device(s) in future drawings you will need to add it to the appropriate device drawing in your content folder. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND BACKING UP THIS FILE BEFORE MODIFYING IT.

    Here's the procedure:
    1. First if you would like the device to display differently in different views you will need to create block(s) for these views. I typically use a symbol block for top and bottom views and a 3D block for all other views.
    2. Go to FORMAT - Style Manager - Electrical Objects - Device Styles and click New Style
    3. On the General tab add the name you would like to call the device
    4. On the Design Rules tab pick the type of device, add a layer key and set how you would like the wire to cleanup.
    5. On the views tab Add a view called Plan, Pick your schematic view block on the view block pull down, select plan in the display representation, choose top and bottom on the view directions and click Use Annotation Scaling under scale.
    6. If you created a 3D block create a second view called Model, Pick your 3D block, select model in the display representation, choose everything but top and bottom, and don't check the Use Annotation Scale.
    7. On the Connectors tab, click add a connector and fill in the information for the connector.
    8. Finally, you can add a classification if you like and change the way the object is displayed.
It sounds like a lot of work but it's really pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

    Hope this helps.

    Dear Scott,

Thanks a lots, i realy appreciated your efoort on this, i know this procedure and we are doing it, in my case is different we already established the schematic symbol (around 500 Symbols in one base map) in plan by mistake and now we need to convert these to an Elec. device, within in the same drg if we modify these symbols it can be re-insert as device what about the Existing schematic symbols in the drg. we have to copy one by one again ? into the same location where we have the schematic symbol

Once again thanks a lots Scott

    Hi Binu,

Sorry about the misunderstanding. I think I understand your situation now. I'm not sure about ABS2006 but in ABS2007.1 under ELECTRICAL - Devices there is a command Convert to Device. This will allow you to select a block on your drawing and convert all of the blocks on that drawing to devices. I don't have access to ABS2006 here at home but when I get to work tomorrow I'll check to see if this command is available in ABS2006.

Hope this is what you're looking to accomplish.

    Dear Scott,

Thanks a lots and iam sorry to give you such pain. well if this is available in ABS 2007.1 it will be very powerfull, we are not started yet to begin with ABS 2007.1. iam also at home now let me know if we can do it in ABS2006, Other Doubt is that i heard in ABS 2007 will have one type of space only but in ABS 2006 we have 3-types of spaces like Engineering space etc... these spaces what we did in ABS 2006 can be retrieve in ABS 2007.1 do u have any idea ? or we need to open these drgs and save in 2007.1 what we did in ABS2006

    Once again Thanks a lots
