    Default Standard Detail Library

Before tackling a huge project, I'd like to know how others are doing this. How are you handling standard details? Does everyone save views to library and then insert views from file? And how are you organizing them? Separate files for different types of details?

I use "detail projects" for all my standard details and component blocks. For example, I have a "toilet Project" that has modelled standard Ansi/ADA bathroom layouts and all the fixtures and wall types, then I have drafting views with all the standard toilet room details, ie fixture mounting heights/blocking elevations, counter details, etc. Then I copy from these into my project as needed. I have these for all systems, ie, roofs, doors and windows, Stairs, elevators, etc.

Note that you can transfer views now, so you just select these projects and chose the details you need.

Interesting... so your toilet families are held in the same file as your standard mounting heights and details for toilet rooms?

You mention that views can be transferred from one project to another. I found no mention of this ability in the standard help files. Can you please point us a help file, web site or tutorial that would show how to do this?

    Thank you

Thumbs down Re: Standard Detail Library

Yes - i'm continually amazed at how bad the "help" file is. This is one area that needs a great deal of time spent on it.

Yes. I group my details. e.g. I put all the slab details into a Slab file, footing details into a Footing file, etc.

We have all our standard details in a details folder organized by sheets. So for example we put roof details on Sheets A-4 series so they would be located in DETAILS\A-4\ROOF\TILE\Roof Ridge Detail. We then use the File - Insert File from - Views and pick the view (Roof Ridge detail). Revit automatically imports the view with the correct name & scale and the view can then be dragged onto a sheet in the project. Then any changes that may be specific for the project can be made in that file and if they are significant enough the detail can be re-named and saved back to the details folder to be used again.

Do the details/views export as linework or are all of the objects exported also?
