    Default Managing file size

I wasn't sure where to put the question so it's landing here...
I'm looking for any tips on managing file size, or otherwise keeping file size to the minimum while working with Autodesk products, in particular Land Desktop/Civil Design and Civil 3D.

The best options that I can think of would be the use of Blocks and Xrefs. 10,000 blocks can take up about the same amount of space as 20 individual objects (depending on the complexity of each).
Another method would be to purge the drawings occasionally to clean out the anonymous blocks.

In Civil 3d you'll want to get real familiar and up to speed with how it works with Vault.
