Default sidewalks that show in wall sections

How should I model a 4" thick sidewalk that has a complex slope and that needs to show in section? The sidewalk slopes in 2 directions and the slope varies as it wraps around the block and turns into a courtyard.

There is a below-grade parking structure so the wall sections that go below the sidewalk.

All i have to start with is the 2d cad civil plan which give me spot elevations for where the sidewalk is.

Thank you very much for your help.

If the sidewalk is very complex, you might want to consider using the topography tools to create this sidewalk. You could then show that four inch thickness by having two points as close as possible to each other with a four inch height difference to give the appearance of a strait drop. I've used this method before and it works but only when the topography was so complex, floors just could not produce the results I needed easy enough. I hope this helps and good luck!

You could also create the surface using a blended mass family and apply the floor its face... still, complex curved shapes can be difficult in Revit and you might be better off using another application to create the geometry and import it into the appropriate category

Somebody here posted a good solution earlier in th year. Create a topo, split this into two pieces - your path and the rest of the site. Move your path up and then merge the two topos again. Gives you a nice kerb.

In my site sections I tend to use detail components rather than 3d modeling. I would like to have everything in the project be 3d and true to life but right now there are things which are just sooo much easier do to 2d.

I agree, and that is one of the hardest things to learn when using Revit I think... When to model and when to "draw"..

    thanks for the input

i ended up modeling just the upper surface of the sidewalk using the topography tool b/c it worked using the spot elevations that we got from the civil engineer.

then in the wall sections, we traced over the topo line with detail lines and drew it 4" thick - then turned the topo off.

basically; used the topo to find out where the top surface of the sidewalk would be in the wall sections and then used detail lines to make it look like an actual sidewalk
