AutoCAD 2007 using Xref command causes a Fatal Error

A colleague of mien is having an itermittent (yet frequent) problem. When he enters the XREF command, Keyboard pulldown or icon, AutoCAD returns a fatal error.
I am able to run XREF in he same DWGs no problem.

Does anyone have an Idea what might cause this or fix this?

P.S.We are using Acad 2007 (and occasionally the files are ADT)

Is this happening only in a particular drawing, or in every drawing, including new? If so, a repair may be required.

Nt every drawing, just seemingly random DWGs, havent found anything in common about the files just yet.

We are also experiencing that. And when I use Classicxref its fine and also try the "IM" command for image.
