Very slow response speed in Inventor Pro 11 & AutoCAD 2007

My machine response to loading , working with & saving has become so bad with both
Inventor 11 Pro & Acad 2007 that it takes 5 minutes to open a drawing. Is this an Acad/Inventor problem or a network problem. The machine was working fine to start off with but has now become slow. If I move a part in Inventor it takes 2 to 3 mins to respond. I have 1 GB Ram. on computer 18 GB on hard drive. 11 GB on network dive

If you try saving a drawings locally on your computer (in My Documents for example) do you still get the same response times? If not then it sounds like a network issue.

I have saved the project to my c: drive and it is just as bad

What processor and video card do you have? Has it always been this way, or has it happened suddenly? What Operating System are you using?

It started suddenly after I extruded a screen with approx. 1300 holes in it but I am not sure wether this will cause the problem.

Extruding 1300 of anything would probably slow the system down for a bit, but does it continue after this? After a reboot? I'm not an expert on system specs, but yours appear to be adequate (not saying that it won't slow down at times, but it should run OK for most normal operations).

Did you install any add-ins just before IV slowed down? Does it only happen with complex files, or even with the simplest of parts?

Are the speed issues with one drawing or one set of drawings?

Try creating a new drawing and see if you still have problems.

I have problems with all assembly & part drawings and idw drawings.I recall that while I was trying to extrude the holes Inventor bombed out and would not cope with the extrusion. It was after this that the program & the machine slowed down. I now have speed problems with all Windows programs in that they take a long time to open & save.

Try logging on to your computer as a different user. If the problem goes away it most likely has something to do with your windows profile. If this is the case have your IT guys delete your profile. Hopefully they know to save things like your favorites and desktop.
