Default Demo the door but leave the opening

When you demo an existing door or window in an existing wall in the New Construction phase Revit automatically places an infill wall into the New Construction phase to replace the door or window that was demo'd. I've run into a number of projects where I wanted to demo the door but leave the opening. Here is an interesting solution.

All you have to do is add a comment to the instance properties of the infill wall like "Opening." Then filter walls by the comment "Opening" and hide those walls in all of your views.

Question Re: Demo the door but leave the opening

Now, let's say I want to keep the infill wall (because I'm closing up the doorway), and I want to highlight the new piece of wall in an elevation. The filter settings in the elevation view display properties do not seem to give me any options that affect the display of the infill portion. Should I be looking somewhere else? Thanks!

I wish I could make it disappear (like delete it) if it is not needed.
    Why is it untouchable anyway?
Maybe infill walls should be a subcategory of wall or something, but this problem needs to be addressed in the next release.

I do a lot of renovations and have this all the time. I end up putting a opening back in that can be scheduled. I find that it is good to have in the schedule as there will be some work done to the opening to make good. Would be nice if we can control the behaviour though.

Or you could just simply hide the element in your view. This will do exactly what you want and it is quicker than setting it up a filter.

Only issue is that these types of overrides are not stored in view templates so you'd have to do it manually in every view.

Using a filter you can quickly apply it to every view...
