Default how do I Copy and paste assemblies and parts?

    Hello,

I have created an assembly file made up of several part files. Each part file references one excel sheet for parameter dimensions.
The assembly file also references the same excel file for parameter dimensions.
When I adjust the values in the excel sheet the assembly and all parts update to reflect the changes made in the excel sheet.

All our work is on a server ( S: ) and my department has a folder named “engineering” there. The "engineering" folder contains numerous other folders including ones named "standard equipment" and "enquiries".
We keep all of our jobs and enquiries for jobs in the "enquiries" folder.

I have saved the above assembly, parts and excel sheet in our “standard assemblies” folder.

When I want to use the above assembly in a job I would like to copy all the files into the “enquiries” folder, adjust the excel sheet to reflect the size of assembly best suited for the job, and have the assembly file and all parts update according to the job excel sheet.

I have experimented with cutting and pasting the files but have found that the assembly still reference the part files and excel sheet saved in the “standard assemblies” folder.

I have also experimented with Pack and Go and have found that the assembly still reference the part files and excel sheet saved in the “standard assemblies” folder.

How can I, quickly and easily, save different size assemblies to specific job files?

I am currently using Autodesk Inventor 11 (not professional) without Vault

    TIA

    Neil

Have looked at Pack and Go? If you right click on the assembly in Windows Explorer, the option for Pack and Go should be there.

Make sure you tell it to grab 'All Linked Files'. That should make a new copy of the Excel chart, and link that to the new copies of your Inventor files.

    Hope this helps.

RMB on the assembly in Windows Explorer and select Design Assistant. It takes a bit of work to get through the first time around.
