Options => Selection Tab increase 'Object selection limit for grips'.
I tried that, I set it the highest possible number and still no luck, thanks for the reply.

OR do they appear on some other Object types?
Have a good one, Mike
check your Z values. i just got a bunch of "prototype" drawings where this is a present issue. fix the raunchy z values, and your grips should come back. i have no idea if the (original) person just doens't have a clue what they were doing, or if they screwed it up on purpose, but it's a messed up bit-o drafting!!
Sometimes, i get lost in my own thoughts and need to ask directions to find my way back.

oh, and FLATTEN didn't work for me, i just got into an endless loop. what i've been doing is using QSELECT to select all 'line' entities and fixing the Z values manually in the properties palette.

warning.... manually fixing the Z's globally seems to lock up my machine, too.
pick smallish groups of entities you want to fix, and it won't lock up as much...

I have this same problem. only one grip showing at the end of a line. you can select it, and only move is available. Long time user... checked everything I could think of??? Did anyone solve this?
This happened to me and was mystifying. Only one grip showing per polyline. Grips = 1 and gripobjlimit = 100. Z values were all zero. I started a new drawing from scratch and the same thing occurred again. The drawing was civil and coordinated and so x,y coordinates were a long way from the origin. In the end I moved all the linework towards the origin and that fixed the missing grips issue. It would have been a problem if I had had to keep the drawing coordinated, though.
entities are outside the limits of your drawings.
Reset using the AutoCAD command LIMITS, so your entities are withing the two points you selected.
