Question Area Calculations metric conversion problem??

I'm using Map 3D 2009. I started a map with shape files and aerial photos received in NAD83 PR83 (Puerto Rico Virgin Islands-Meter) and set the units to meter. I'm trying to calculate the area of a boundary. In the properties pallet, it gives me square feet instead of meters. The ACRE lisp routine gives me acres and square feet that match the properties pallet, but they are not accurate. I know this because I have a government document that states the actual acres and hectares of the boundary. The acreage area Map3D is giving me for the boundary is approx 12 times smaller than what is stated in the government document.

I believe that the map is set up right, because I went on Google earth and measured a distance between two points on the ground in meters. It matches the distance in my map (given in meters) when I use the "distance" command.

Can somebody give me a clue what I am doing wrong?

evidently the Acre.lsp file was designed to convert from Sq Ft to Acres. The author of that add-on did not consider meters as a drawing unit, and is simply taking the AREA and converting that to Acres.

Try using the Quick Calculator conversions, and map SQ Meters to Acres.

Regarding the Properties palette display SQ Ft - I'm not sure what you are saying. All I see in properties is the area in generic units, no suffix,
