    Exclamation Inventor Crashes

I was just wondering if anyone has had a problem with Inventor when working with an assembly, and any changes that are made the program crashes. I am working on a grain bin, and everytime I go to remove a part it crashes. I have installed the service packs and the "body culling" patch. The computer I have is a Dell with the ATI Radeon 300X graphics card, 3.4 GHz and I believe 2 gigs of ram. The IT department has tried to fix the problem, and everytime they come to "fix it" it does the same thing after a week. Very frustrating. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Have you tried the same operation on a different computer? Try that if you can just to makesure your current computer doesn't have some "wires crossed" someplace

So.. it is working ok for a week and then it starts the problem again..... do you know what changes IT is making that gets it working temporally..... it could be a setting that they take off in windows that gets automatically "updated" every week by your companies server.... I had a similar problem with that at an old job, weekend maintenance would reset all the corrections

Try switching to OpenGL instead of Direct3D for a while and see if that takes care of the problem.

    Don't feel lonely!

I am the only one here too and I get the same from time to time.

"Sorry for the inconvenience, we are sending a report..."

Great! And then the whole .iam file disappears completely. This actually happened the other day so I started again. I put it down to my not understanding the software well enough, or maybe...

More that likely, it's your Graphics Card and Driver. Your ATI is not certified to run Inventor.

    Here's a simple test....

In Inventor go to Tools > Application Options > Hardware.

If you set the radio button to the bottom setting - Generic OpenGL, pick OK and then open the same file, does it still crash? If not, then time to send your IT department shopping for a real workstation Card. Go to Inventor - Help > Graphics for a link to the Autodesk Card and Driver site.

I tried changing it to the generic openGL and inventor would not even open the assembly. It froze and did the old "not responding" message. This is typical I get the latest additions of inventor but when I ask for changes to my computer, so that I can run these programs it doesn't happen. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Sorry had to vent a little.

I think the next release is actually a little more forgiving in the graphics card requirements. How often does that happen...
