    Default Foundation Slabs and Shafts

We are modeling a foundation slab (raft footing) under a tower core.

Typically the elevator shaft extends into the footing forming the pit which we model by giving a negative base offset to the shaft opening property.

Cutting a section through the pit only shows solid concrete, and not the pit, and the plan views do not show the perimeter of the shaft in the footing like it does for a floor slab.

    Is this a bug ?

I've noticed the same thing. A floor slab, the shaft will punch straight through it, a foundation slab can't be punched through at all.

I think to do what you want you'd need to do it in two steps, first draw the foundation slab around the shaft in the [] shape (so you can see straight thorough it). Then draw the bottom continuous slab. Then join the two.

Heck I'm new at this. I'm sure someone's got a better way to do it.

    Anyone?

Still a two step process, but you could also use an in-place family of the type foundation with a void to cut the foundation slab.

Interesting, what I found was that the shaft opening punched all the way through the foundation slab, even though I set the bottom elevation of the shaft to only punch half way though the foundation. I finally gave up on bringing the shaft opening all the way down to the foundation and did what Paul suggested and created and in place family.

I had a bit of time to play and took the void approach one step further. I constrained the void extrusion to the shaft base, shaft footprint and the top of slab foundation. Once this is complete the void can be completely driven by the shaft opening itself. I've attached a quick video clip to show the process.

    Hi All

I have the same problem. I have lift/stair walls onto the foundation slab.
Does creating the in-place family allow the slab to automatically change with the walls if they are moved like the foundation slab does?

    TIA
