Parametric Array spacing control

I'm looking to creating window grills that use an Parametric Array to control the number a grills, is the final conclusion that this is impossible?

I won't say impossible, since I've done an array for curtain wall panels. I've been able to place small 4"x4" PV cells and array them. Array goes to equal space + edge distance.
You do need to nest some families in order to make it work. You can't build it all in one family.
