Default Revit 2008 hiding my crop region?

Most of my quandaries from Revit have been solved by searching previous posts, but this one has me at a loss. The crop region in the attached plan is missing in action despite having "Show Crop Region" turned on. Interestingly, the crop region shows up when I activate the "Reveal Hidden Elements" button, which is my current workaround. Anyone have an idea as to what might be hiding my crop region?

I'm guessing this was a file upgraded from a past version?

In a previous release someone has used "hide annotation in view" on the crop region. You can use your reveal hidden elements tool, select the crop region and select "unhide element" in your status bar.

Yes, this file was upgraded from 9.1 to Revit 2008. I tried to select the crop region with "Reveal Hidden Elements" turned on, but there was not an option to "Show Annotation" when I right-clicked. The crop region did not appear to be hidden by element, either. I'm still perplexed.

you should be able to right click and go to "unhide in veiw->element". Name has changed a little in 2008, but that should do it.

From his images, it doesn't seem that the crop region is actually hidden. Notice how it's shown as a halftone...if it was hidden it would have shown as a solid. So it might be an upgrading issue.

I have had this problem when I have used the "hide at scales coarser than" option under view properties. If that is set to be coarser than the current view is, you can't see the crop region.

To be clearer, that option is for whether the callout for this view is seen in other views. However, if it is set to be coarser than this view itself, it hides the crop region. Which sort of makes sense, I guess.

It has normally happened to me when I have selected a bunch of elevations whose markers I didn't want visible and just set it to be really coarse so I didn't have to know exactly what scale to use. Then I found that I couldn't change the crop region, and had to go back and set it to be just higher than the scale of the elevations themselves.

    Hope this helps.

You're correct. That's a bug in fact (I filed that one not long ago). It's a bug under both RB9.1 and RAC2008. I didn't test to see if it was the case also with plan callouts, but I wouldn't be surprised. If it is, then to get your crop region back, change the scale of your callout view or just change the "Hide at scales coarser than" parameter to the scale of the callout or coarser.

Sorry about the earlier confusion, I now realize "hide element" replaced "hide annotation in view".

Regarding "hide at scales coarser than", isn't that only a property of detail views? This plan is not a callout nor dependent of another view. I did try to find the "hide at scales coarser than" option in the view properties just in case, but no luck.

You're right....only detail callouts set to show in intersecting views have that option. It sounds like you might want to notify support about this.
