    Default Tool Palette Transparency

In 2008 I can't have my tool palettes etc as transparent and I get the message:

"Palette transparency is unavailable while using this hardware acceleration driver and operating system combination"

This is on both work and home computer with similar specs except one has an Nvidia graphics card the other has an ATI, both have the latest drivers.

    Running on Windows XP SP2.
Pentium IV 3.2ghz (home one at 2.8ghz)
    2gb RAM
Sappire Radeon X600 Pro 256 (Home one PNY Nvidia 7600GS).

    Any suggestions?

Are your cards running Open GL? My guess is that's the problem. ACA2008 (I think) was built to run on vista. Vista dosen't support Open GL, So I'm guessing that ACA2008 dosen't support Open GL and only directx. Just a guess, but you may want to take a peek at the Adesk site for supported video cards. Let us know what you find.

    Thanks for the reply David

But looking here it only supports open GL capable graphics cards so I'm a little

It doesn't really matter as I've now got used to them being non-transparent, but if 2007 could do it then 2008 should be able to ..... shouldn't it?

This is for my home nvidia card which appears to be supported but I don't fully understand the Open GL and Dierect x thing, can a card be run as both or does it depend on the driver?
Although I'm using Driver version: 6.14.10.6517 which is a later one (I think).

Edit: actually that was for the 7300GS where as I have the 7600GS which isn't listed, nor is the ATI X600 but both appear to work very well apart from this transparency thing.

I'm just as confused as you are. I'm just trying to pass along what I've heard. 2008 vs 2007 is different. 2007 support XP, 2008 support Vista. Personally with these types of issuses, I'd let Adesk know about the issue. But I'd point the finger at MicroSoft. Thanks Mr. Bill

I added this bit on after you posted so it looks like neither cards are supported

    Yes and no.

Based on my understanding, a card can have the ability to support both, but I do not believe it can run both systems. The article Chad posted is very revealing.

According to this, MS changed their mind and decided to support OGL last year after all...
