Smile Updating Architects Model in Structural Model

    Hi everyone!

First post so bare with me.

I have a large structural project underway which i have jumped in mid-way, with limited revit experience.

Now the job is broken into several structural models (im a structural drafter) and the architect has sent us some updated architectural models.

Now i want to update each model, though unsure on the correct process.

Can i just re-direct the managed links path to the updated model?

    or

Should i move the old model into another folder and replace with the newer model and change the name to the older version? Will revit pick this up and update my model correctly?

Just need some help here guys.

    Kind Regards,
    Brock

Default Re: Updating Architects Model in Structural Model

We've successfully used both methods. Currently our project folder structure has a "backgrounds" folder where current client models and cad backgrounds are kept. Since the client's update files typically come to us with the same name we simply overwrite the contents of this folder with the new ones and use the reload button in the manage links dialog if necessary.

We also archive all of this incoming information in dated folders. Prior to the backgrounds folder we would just use the dated folders and the reload from button in the manage links dialog.

The primary reason we have gone to the backgrounds folder approach is for dealing with clients still using cad. Since partial updates are constantly coming in we file them in a dated folder for record purposes and then dump a copy in the backgrounds folder. This way the team and others helping out always knows where to get the latest information we have from the client.

    Welcome to AUGI!
