Question Keep current Layer Filter current while opening and closing

Is there any setting that will allow the drawing to remember the current layer filter so that if you close and later open the drawing you don't need to reset the filter for the drop down list? (this gets frustrating when ACAD decides to get screwy on me)

Alternatively a setting to stop xref layers showing on the drop down list for all drawings would also work, although I suspect the answer to both is no.

Running 2008 or 2007 depending on what I am doing at the time.

    Thanks in advance.

Make sure VISRETAIN is set to 1. That will take care of those xref layers. By default the drawing should look exactly the same when you open it as when it was last saved.

I don't think that is what the OP was asking.

They want the currently applied layer filter to be persistent between drawing sessions, which also affects the layers displayed in the layer dropdown (in the Layers toolbar).

You can probably manage this with customization, but I don't think there's any other way.

It would be nice, though, to be able to set a drawing so that XREF layers don't appear in the layer toolbar.

I haven't figured out how to do this one yet either. I guess the need to do it hasn't hit AutoDesk's care list yet.

    You can set this.

In the Layer Properties Manager. select xref in the filter groups (left hand side) then tick invert filter, and make sure Apply to layer toolbar.

The big problem is that this need to be done when ever you enter the drawing. It would be nice if you could get this set to all opened drawings but thats where my knowledge ends.

    Hi

You should find AutoCAD 2008 works in the manner you desire. Sorry, I no longer have access to AutoCAD 2007, therefore I am unable to carryout testing in that version.

    Test conditions:

    AutoCAD 2008
Create a new Layer Filter (NoXrefs) in DWG file. Layer Filter (NoXrefs) set-up to hide all Xref Layers = ~*|*

    Save and Close DWG file.
Open DWG file, Layer Filter (NoXrefs) is still current and active.

    Exit AutoCAD completely.

    Start-up AutoCAD.
Open DWG file, Layer Filter (NoXrefs) is still current and active.

    Have a good one, Mike

The current layer filter is not retained in 2007.

I guess I'm missing a setting somewhere, my filter goes back to "All"
