Disapearing Text while using Inventor

I was wander if anyone has or knows of a fix for the following issue. We are using Inventor Series 9 on MS Windows 2000 Professional.

Issue:
While in Inventor and during text edit mode, the the text just edited will disappear. We think we have tr acted the cause to a recent software push by our IT department of a MS-HotFix KB918118 MS07-013 1.0. We were able to test and replicate the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling this Hotfix.

In addition, our IT department finds this Hotfix to be necessary for the overall IT environment since it contains some security patches. Therefore, not to install the MS-Hotfix is not an option. So what are our alternatives?

What can be done on the software side (Inventor) to resolve the issue. Does Inventor itself have a patch that will allow this Hotfix to coexist on the PC using Inventor?

Any information and/or suggestion on this topic would be much appreciated.

Inventor has released a Hot fix for this problem it should be what you are looking for.

Thanks for responding to my issue. The autodesk patch URL you shared is for requires Inventor SP4. We are currently at Inventor SP 2. So this hot fix did not resolve the issue. A logical approach to resolving this issue would be to update inventor to SP 4. But how would I accomplish this?

We also noticed that when we have a PC that has 3D Studio Max loaded on the same PC as Inventor the issue goes away. I was wandering if there is a relationship between the two products that solves the issue that can be shared.

Bill,

The service packs for Inventor are located here. You can download and install SP3 and SP4 to get your system to the required level for the hotfix.

Alternately, you can uninstall Microsoft hotfix KB918118 to get rid of the issue too.

As for the machine with Max on it, I haven't heard of Max 'fixing' the Inventor text issue, the first thing I'd check is to see if you have hotfix above installed on that machine or not. It may be that the machine that works (with Max on it), just doesn't have the hotfix installed.

I had the same issue with Inventor 8. I uninstalled the hot fix and it works for now. I also have 3D studio Max R5 loaded and I was still having the text issue in inventor 8.

Thanks to all who have viewed and replied to my posting.

We have already tried removing the hot fix and this did not fix the issue. Our next step will be to try to update inventor SP2 to SP 4. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

I will post our results once we have updated and test to see if the issue reoccurred.

You may have to make sure that your automatic updates are turned off. I've seen cases where someone removed the MS hotfix, only to have Automatic updates put it in for you.

Although if you go to SP4 and the Adesk hotfix, this should take care of it.

You should probably reinstall the MS hotfix too before putting in the Adesk hotfix.
