Unhappy I need help with the command wipeout & draw order

I am creating some valve blocks. I want the pipe line running through the block of the valve to trim out automatically when I insert it. I saw this in a 1 day training session. It was not supposed to be included in the course but the instructor ran through it very quickly.

I cannot get it to work and don't know what I am doing wrong. I have used the wipeout command to make the frame. I have sent the valve to the front and the frame to the back using draw oeder but its still showing the frame and no valve or anything in the frame.

I could use a tip as to what I'm missing.

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD Gallery Forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

    Thanks,

You and me both. I still cannot figure out why I cannot send objects above the wipeout.
I have to pull an enclosed area off to the side, create the hatch, and then copy the results
back onto the wipeout. It works, but it is less than desireable.

You Might try creating a "wipeout" layer at color 255 (that prints white) Then do a solid hatch behind the text, then move the text to the front with drawingorder. We have a new plotter that wipeout prints a dot hatch behind but when we do a solid hatch at color 255 and move the text to the front it works like a normal wipeout.

    Hi,

Wipeout frames can be turned on or off; what I like to do is to leave the frame on and use the frame itself as the entity, and set it to whatever layer I want that entity to be. That way I only have one entity to bring to the front. Hope that helps.

That is an excellent idea. I also use the frame as the entity. I still have
trouble getting the draworder to work correctly. AutoCad refuses to work
    in my favor.

What version are you running? Autodesk admits earlier versions were not as draworder persistent as newer versions.
Why draw straws? Just draw one straw and array it.

    Hi,
Attaced is something I'm working on at the moment - it's a stair and handrails made of wipeouts except for the treads which I've put on top using draw order. The only thing that wipeout doesn't do is curves or anyrthing that's not made up of lines segments. This was done in ACAD 2007.

I have 2008 and I am still having draw order issues. Cad treats all of my objects
like a multi layered cake. The last object drawn on the top of the pictorial is the one that gets shown.
