    Default Count No. of Blocks

    Hi all,
Is there a field that can be inserted in to a cell to count the number of named blocks?

Best of luck to you on this one. I've been trying to figure out the same thing for weeks. My only suggestion is to use the block counting command, then enter the values manually.

That's how I've been doing it but I was hoping that with ACAD 2008 that would have been added, but I agree with you on that..

    Hi

Not a Field, but the following offers a workable solution (granted it take a little bit of setting up, but once done...).

Count the number of Blocks in a drawing file

Correctly calculating totals in a Table

Thanks for the links, Mike, but it's all over my head - I think I'll stick to counting the blocks via qselect & entering the info manually.

Not a field, but you can easily create a TABLE that includes the quantity of all (or certain) named blocks in the drawing. This table is dynamic and will update when the quantities change.

    Command: ._EATTEXT
    -or-
    Command: ._DATAEXTRACTION

    Command: EATTEXT
    EATTEXT a.k.a attribute extractor

pre-2008 version of the data extraction needs to be done thru the wizard. there's a check box in there to calculate totals. i don't know how to add this after the fact before 2008 tables...

like rk says, once table is created, all you need to do is refresh when modifying the source drawing.
Sometimes, i get lost in my own thoughts and need to ask directions to find my way back.
