Default Door Tag auto alignment with the door?

Like a bazzillion other architects, we prefer a simple text "tag" for doors, aligned with the active leaf. The reason being that
a: there are a ton of doors in a given project, many more so than windows, and the tags are mostly within the building, and thus more likely to get in the way. And
b: we do a lot of interiors work, where material transitions happen at doors, so leaving the tag in the default location obscures important information.

However, the manual process of rotating and eyeballing all those tags is a HUGE amount of time. So, is there a way to make a door tag that automatically associates with the active leaf, or are we again stuck with an annotation that simple isn't very good, and no way to fix it?
If so, it seems this should be added to elevation symbols and drawing titles (that really need an option to right justify by default) as very basic annotation that MUST be fixed. AT least I should have the option to make a more legible drawing, even if I am not forced to use it. But to be forced to make a less legible drawing is a little problematic at $5000 a seat or whatever.

Just my $0.02 as I try to address standards and regularly get to tell management "Sorry, Revit just doesn't do that."

    Thanks,
    Gordon

When placing a Door (or just a Tag) please look on the all important OPTION BAR when placing them!!! If your Tag is a real Tag then it can be placed either Vertically OR Horizontally. If I understand you this should work...mainly...

Yes, the default location of the Tag may (will/should) be in the center of the door; but it's not too hard or time consuming to select a bunch of the tags, (let's say all the horizontal ones) and move them en-mass. (assuming the active leaf is in the same place, etc...

    I hope this helps,

Thanks for that reminder! The bigger one I tell people is to NOT tag on placement. The number it assumes is NEVER right, and you are forced to rotate half your doors. But either way, you have to manually locate the symbol, and there is not snapping so you spend an inordinate amount of time fussing the stupid thing into place.
Man what I wouldn't give for a tag that related to the door, not the hole, automatically rotated, and some freaking SNAPS for annotation. It just shouldn't be that hard to make annotation rational, but the Factory seems to have no stomach for it. Bums my modernist heart to see all this eyeballing going on. Just not enough RIGOR!

    Best,
    Gordon
