I had a file crash which had two xrefs attached. Now all three files will not open, nor will their backups, nor with drawing recovery help. It seems to freeze while trying to open the xrefs. I am using AutoCAD 2008. What should I do?

Please note I have moved this to the AutoCAD 2008 General forum.

Have you tried re-starting your computer? It may sound like an odd solution, but if none of them are opening it sounds like it might not be a simple drawing file issue... a restart "might" fix it (but I'm not promising anything, it's just the first step of many potential solutions).
I have had some success with the partial open option on hard to open dwgs.
When you open the dwg. look to the right of the open button.
Press the down arrow, select Partial Open.
When you get in run an audit.

Thanks for your help. I decided to insert as a block into a new drawing and was able to save most of it. I would like to think I am experienced at AutoCAD, but I have not had this kind of thing happen to me before.
Wow, that is just weird that you couldn't open any of them but could do an insert. I used to suggest inserting, but that's gotten to be less and less likely to work as Acad has gotten more "advanced".Originally Posted by gregoran

The file begins to open and then freezes upon looking for the xrefs (and it is looking for the xref in the auto save folder for some reason). I open a new file, and insert as a block. Sometimes the xrefs come with the insert command, and the title block on the layout page (which is an xref) is automatically deleted. So I thought I had it beat to find out today that the new drawings then froze in the same manner! And now a co-worker is having the same problem. We just upgraded to 2008 a month ago. There has to be someone else out there having the problem. I am new to this forum, should I attach the file(s) for someone to take a look out. If this is some kind of bug, I hate to spread it, or is it an auto cad issue with a fix coming around the corner soon. How does one know when an update is available.
Thanks
