Layer control

I've had issues with the 'Layer Control' pull-down menu. Randomly, in the middle of a drawing session, the icons for layer states disappear. The only way of getting them back is restarting the program. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way of getting the icons back without restarting? The names remain, just the icons disappear.

Another issue I have is my current layer switching itself (unwantingly). There is no specific set of tasks during which this happens, and it always seems to switch to a layer that I have off. I only notice it when I draw something, at which point I notice that item is on a layer that is off. A simple undo, and setting the layer I initially had current again is the solution, but it's frustrating that I have to go through this process in the first place.

Do you have any third party plug-ins installed.

There are a couple 3rd party routines available that will automatically set a layer once certain commands are issued. So that all dims are placed on a dim layer and so on. I know DSX Tools has this for one.
