our cheat book is actually used by everone, in our office if you create a new block, its put on the server to be shared, then a email is sent out about the new block so everyone can write it down in the standards (that what we call the cheat bool). i also keep a cheat book on our of lisp routines and color charts for diffrent achitectural firms.

Roger that..........I was thinking about how I could spread some general cad knowledge.
The cheat sheet may jog my memory, but it may be useless to a coworker.

Thats the beauty of it...you could start collecting a nominal fee everytime someone wants information on CAD. As a joke, (and my co-workers always find it funny) I say "That will be 10 cents please" after I give them the hint.

(Of course I might need to raise my fees for inflation...)

I'm not so sure it's age. I think it's more of an overload thing. We get hit with so many things that it's easy to forget stuff we don't use often.

I used to keep up a tips & tricks document, but that didn't really work out too well because it was difficult to update and keep my users current with the latest doc release.

Then I thought sharepoint would be perfect for this, but as some know too well, sharepoint isn't exactly the most user friendly solution.

So what I did recently was to leverage my employer's webhost account by creating a wordpress blog and registering a custom domain to point to it. Now I can update it whenever needed (from wherever), and utilize the feed reader built into Autocad to push updates to my users. I've found this to be hugely successful, and I've since opened it up to allow not only my own guys to contribute, but hopefully anyone who might be interested.

I've spent a fair amount of time adding some neato bells and whistles to make the blog both visually appealing, and easy to use. And best of all, it's accessible at the office, at home, and on the road. I'll soon even be adding a mobile version.

I would recommend this solution to anyone with the inclination to set one up. Of course, all are welcome to become a regular at my place.

ive kept a cheat book since i started working in CAD i would be lost without it, especially working with both AutoCAD & Microstation. People laugh, but its them who ask me the questions

i used to keep one by my side when i first started out.

but i haven't found the need for it in years. The HELP menu built in is reliable. Plus there's AUGI, and the adesk discussion group...with all of these electronic resources, i dont have the need...

as I always tell to my students in my AutoCAD training class. Always have a small notebook. for them to be able to remember all stuff I leak.
