    Question 2D From 3D

I wish I could easily produce -from my 3D ADT or ACA Files- ACCURATE and WELL ORGANIZED 2D drawings for my colleagues or collaborates who do not use 3D in their work.
Having the architectural drawings in 3D is fine, but how can I send updated DWGs to the Civil and or Mechanical Engineer teams who are to work on the same project?

By Accurate and Well Organised DWG I mean that the 2D product needs to be a normal DWG file organised in layers, having blocks and generally editable for anyone who will need to work further on it and to produce a new file with Civil work or Electro-mechanical data on it.

Have you tried using the export to autocad feature? It usually works well.

Have you tried all 3 options when working with your consultants?
    • eTransmit
    • AECOBJEXPLODE (different than eTransmit)
    • Having them use object enablers to view the ADT objects
Just wanted to see if these were all options you've tried.

Dear David, thanks for your reply.

Export to... works well, but does not actually produce a 2D drawnig. A Mechanical engineer collaborate is most likely to work on a simple 2D DWG in order to produce his part of the project.

What I really need to to produce a series of simple 2D DWGs -that is plans, elevations and sections- which i can send to Civil and Mechanical (or other) engineer teams so that they can work on the same project in 2D as they do normaly.

    Thanks Steve,
I did not know AECOBJEXPLODE. It seems to work well generally. Leaves out the roof and sets of sinks etc. in the bathrooms.
    Thanks again.

Ok, how about the "Flatten" command? I haven't used it, but I think that's another option for you.

Export to AutoCAD does an AecObjExplode. If you are in a view that displays objects as 2D (eg, top/plan view for walls), you will get 2D results.
