    Default Is Workset1 special?

We would prefer to keep all items on very use specific worksets from the beginning of a project, but as far as I can tell there is no way to delete Workset1, even after other worksets are created. My thought is to just rename Workset1 to Shell or some other appropriate name.
Since you can't change Visible By Default in all Views after creating a Workset, I assume the renamed Workset1 needs to be something you DO want visible in all views, like the building skin. But is there anything else special about it? And are most people doing this, or leaving Workset1 as some sort of catchall?

    Thanks,
    Gordon

I rename Workset1 to Linked Revit Models. If I have multiple linked Revit files that I want to split into separate worksets, then I just rename it to whichever linked Revit file it contains. If there are no Revit links in the project, people tend to ignore it.

    Gordon,
You are correct. You cannot delete either Workset1 and/or Shared Levels and Grids.

Workset1 is the equivalence of DefPoints in ACAD, right?

Equivalent? Not sure about that but worksharing needs one workset to function so it ensures that workset1 can't be removed.

In the sense that Defpoints is tied to Layer 0 is some powerful, interesting and hidden ways? No, I think in that respect Workset 1 is just a workset. Rename it, delete it, whatever. Never had a problem treating it exactly like all the others.

Yes. workset1 is special. It hosts special objects, such as the base point and the survey point, and maybe other, sensitive elements.

Therefore, I am with the opinion to leave this workset alone, and away from ordinary users' daily use. We usually turn its visibility off in all views, as an added protection.

Sometimes, we rename workset1 to "origin" or something that lets users know that there is no work elements in there for them to open.

I consider it a really bad practice to use this workset as an ordinary one.

I've always thought that Workset1 wasn't that special; it was just a default name added to the first workset aside from Levels and Grids.
While working on a project where our model isn't so large as to require many worksets, we were using workset1 for below grade, and a separate workset for above grade... and I've just noticed one strange thing:
    1. Our linked models are each placed on their own workset, structural, electrical, ventilation, etc.
    2. Even if linked worksets are on, When workset1 is turned off, all linked worksets dissappear as well.

Does anyone know the reason for this?
I've checked in their models, they aren't even using workset1, rather new worksets.

My solution will be to move all objects in workset1 to a new workset "below grade", but this whole thing really surprised me.
