    Default Layer Management

Does anybody know of a setting that automatically freezes any new layers that you make? This would be nice because when you make a new layer and you have 50 tabs, you have to turn it off in all the other tabs. It would be easier to just turn it on in the tab you are working in.

    Thanks for any help.

This does not solve the problem. I'm looking for something that freezes it as soon as you exit out of the layer management box.

Is the layer in an xref base, or within the actual drawing your layout tabs are in?

Never mind.. It doesn't matter if you're using layout tabs.
We use one drawing per plot sheet (layout), so if it were an xref, you could just freeze the new layers in the xref base and thaw them per sheet you need them.

With layout tabs you need to freeze and thaw per view port and that's not the quick answer you were looking for.

vplayer command, pick the Newfrz option, follow the prompts.

Not sure why this still isn't in the layer prop. toolbar

This can be done in 2008, but I think it's new. You can access from the shortcut menu (New layer VP frozen in all viewports)

VPLAYER will freeze in all newly created viewports, but not for existing, I think.

    Also see here.

For those wondering the same thing as I was, follow kent.elrods instructions. It works perfectly.

the vplayer, newfrz will work the way the OP wanted, it will allow you to create layer(s) and have them frozen in all existing viewports.

In the Layer Properties Toolbar, creating a new layer and using the "New VP Freeze" selection will freeze that layer in any new viewports created after closing the Layer Prop. Toolbar.

Why they can't put all of this into one dialog is beyond me.

Maybe in 2008 they did? That would be nice.
