Default how to halt a journal file?

I have had a serious crash and have tried to use the journal file to recover. The journal file works great, but crashes at the end every time, even if I trim the crash part out of the journal file. How do you halt a journal file before it gets to the end?

I would send this off to support, but i get an error when I try to contact subscription and telephone support was cut off a couple years ago. Don't you just love Autodesk, I know I do!

    Hi Joe,

The journal is just a text file so I believe you should be able to edt it notepad or some other app and delete the offending command(s)

    Hi Dimitri,

I've tried trimming it and it still crashes at the end. What I'd like to do is halt it part way through but it seems immune to any keyboard intervention.

I would suggest that you keep nibbling off commands from the back end until you remove the offending command, keeping copies of the previous text file, so you could then possibly identify your trouble maker, but this is not a perfect science. For worksharing enabled files, I would avoid this method entirely and instead use the Backup folder and scroll through the history to the right time period before the crash.

All I know to halt the journal running is to turn off the computer switch....but that is no good..

What dimitry suggested is the only way....you just need to keep trimming until you remove the commands that eventually cause the crash.... It may be tricky...but eventually you will find the spot....try to read a littl from the journal and try to re-create the story of what it is doing....

    Good luck on this...

    PS

I also echo what Echo said...
