I did a search and couldn't seem to find exactly what I was looking for. I haven't made a lot of new families in 2008, so I'm still learning masking regions.
A user created a 2D drinking fountain family. He imported a CAD file into a family, exploded it and changed the lines to the proper Revit category, and cleaned out all the AutoCAD layers. I have found this to be the easiest solution - as opposed to redrawing symbolic linework.
He then placed a masking region in an elevation view so that when placed in the family, it blocks the pattern of the wall. However, when it is drawn in the foreground it hides the family's model lines and the wall pattern, and when it is not drawn in the foreground it doesn't hide anything.
Is this how masking regions work? If so, I thought of 2 possible solutions - redraw the family in symbolic lines, or draw a solid extrusion as the back panel of the fountain so that the wall pattern will be hidden, but the model linework will still show.
Any suggestions?
