    Default Site tools

Summary: The wish of the ages: allow Revit to build roads, curbs, sidewalks, ridges and swales, that all modify the toposurface.

    Description: More Site Tools.

How Used: Roads, curbs, sidewalks, ridges and swales, that all modify the site mass.

I am a civil engineer [EIT] and a programmer and a ACME tech for the last 20 years, and I am well practiced in using Revit tools available to create all the items you are asking for. They are not called by the civil names though. I use roofs and other tools to make the roads. But if you design in Civil 3D you can export the finished point file into Revit and accomplish the same thing. The problem is your trying to make Revit into a civil program. As a programmer, I think a there should be a a separate package installed to allow more civil design tools and landscaping tools.

Ironically, the first post above was written in 2007. Here I am. It's 2013 and nothing has changed. Still no site tools. I have seen Eagle Point's site tools. If they can do it, why not Autodesk? Actually, I have heard a rumor that AD has already attempted a site package and the result was below their expectations, so they dropped it. I know for a fact that AD always leaves some desirable feature out, to that they always have an upgrade path for the next version.

I also am a programmer. If, as you claim, you can already accomplish everything you need in Revit by using unorthodox methods with what already exists, then maybe all that needs to be done is to provide a new user interface that makes roads using the existing code that makes roofs. It would not surprise me that such dual use of code already exists somewhere inside of Revit.

My favorite unorthodox use of Revit can be found in Mastering Revit 2011, where Phil Read creates a Disneyland-style monorail train system using Revit railings and balusters!

I wish Autodesk would just buy the Eagle point site tools and stick it in the product.
