wall tags....what are they referenecing?

I changed the "Mark" in the wall properties to a number. I placed a wall tag in my drawings and all i got was a "?". I gave the tag a number manualy. Then the same number came up in the wall tag on a seperate identical wall type (so, it works). There are just a few wall types in the job, so its no big deal. But on a larger project i'm going to want to establish the number in the wall properties. I think? What is the tag refernecing? I thought it was "mark" in wall properties.

by default it references the Type Mark, not just the mark

If you open the tag family in the family editor (select it and click Edit Family on the options bar)you can check to see which parameter it is reporting.
In the family editor select the label and then click the Select Parameter... button on the options bar.
