    http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/file...nt_changes.pdf

There are build numbers, service packs, web updates
    whats the deal?

How do I keep track of all of these revisions.
The web site might say service pack 2
but the about dialog box does now say that

I need to keep track of all 3 versions

Recently Autodesk changed from build to SP. So we are now at SP2. You dont ahve to keep track. The newst is always the one on the web.

The newest is always on the net is not the answer when you have to manage hundreds of installations across the country

If architecture and structure is on SP2 then what is MEP WU2?
Also where in the software does it say what version you are running?

How do you update an old deploy to SP2?
Is there an update like AutoCAD?

You still have to read the release note, how do you deploy to those machines ? I suggest that you use either a script or GPO. That way its easy to control what gets install and you can install the same all over the place

You simply run the installer and it overwrites the necessary file

I find the fact that the build number and the file name and listing on the website no longer match.

The website says SP2 the build number is 20070810_1700. How would one match those up. Seems pretty simple to get the version number and the download to match so one knows what build they actually have without haveing to read release notes everytime.

What ever happened to the patch process that was implied when 08 was released?

ok so I had an installation of build number what ever
    I create a silent deploy of SP2
I run the deploy, lets cross our fingers and hope it updates properly

The question was WHY isn't there an update patch like AutoCAD

Only if you open the release notes. The download used to match the build number. Much easer to manage for users and managers. Why make the process more difficult? and why are you defending making the process more difficult?

I don't mind the SP2 naming too much -- it's easier to remember that you've got SP2 installed. I suppose if another build comes out it will be labeled SP3...

I too find it difficult that the build number in the program and the download file name do not match. They should just pick one way to do it.

But the real question is when will SP3 come that hopefully fixes the transparent floor issue when you assign a color fill to a room tag? Hey at that point they can name it RAC2008_It_used_to_work_but_then_it_broke_but_now_it_is_fixed.exe
