    Question Dynamic Blocks stop working

We have been having a problem with dynamic blocks ceasing to work. For what ever reason, suddenly dynamic blocks will no longer work in specific drawings. We have tried audits, recovers, reinstalling blocks all to no avail.

EDIT: I'm attaching a file to show an example. Try any of the following embedded dynamic blocks (file is zoomed to these 3 dblocks): steel stud, Wide flange, HSS.

is it just in this file? have you tried copying stuff into new in case this one's corrupted?
Sometimes, i get lost in my own thoughts and need to ask directions to find my way back.

This problem has occurred on several drawings. The dynamic blocks work fine in a new file.

Could it be that you or someone else using the drawings has been saving them back to a previous version? Dynamic blocks are converted to normal blocks if you save back. You can check if anyone has their AutoCAD set to automatically save back under Tools>Options, "Open and Save" tab, under "Save As" it should be set to "AutoCAD 2007 drawing".

I don't see this as a problem, as I continouly save down to 2000 format. I think that my DB's are also saved in that format.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

If you're using AutoCAD 2008, Annotative Scales could cause this. Here's a quick and dirty example...
    • You insert a DB at a 1:10 scale, the DB itself is scaled up to match the current CANNOSCALE.
    • You change to 1:20 scale, the DB appears to loose its DB'ness.
    • If you change back to 1:10, it should work again.
DB's are not like Annotative Text. They will show up no matter what, but their grips become inactive. Drove me nuts until I figured it out by accident one time.
