Span Direction Symbol Dependent Views

I am running into problems showing span direction symbols for dependent views. It won't show the symbol unless the annotation crop encompasses the whole slab. Has any one else experience this and if so was there a good trick to getting them to show, besides making an annotation symbol, which I would rather not do. I would rather use the tools Revit provides.

When you are in your dependent view and you highlight the crop region you will notice a dashed line outside of the crop region with some controls for adjusting it. If you modify those controls to encompass the slab then you'll be able to have your span direction symbol. I made a custom one that does not span the entire length of the slab for either the span direction arrow or the extents arrow.
