Question Re: Drag & Drop into Pallete

I am having similar problems with tool palettes now. I cannot add anything to any new palettes that I create.

I have created about 20 palettes previously with no problems, but now after I create the new palette i have tried to drag and drop lines and blocks from the current drawing and also drag and drop blocks from design center, but they are not added to the palette (I even see the little rectangle and plus sign symbol). If I drag and drop these same items onto and existing palette it works as expected.

It's almost as if the palette isn't really being created. I see it when AutoCAD is open, but if I look in the palettes folder it is not there and if I close and reopen the program it is gone.

The palette files are located on a network folder and I am one of the few people that has write permission to his folder and I don't have the lock icon on any of the palettes (new or existing).

    I am stumped.

    Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Hugh

Double check your Tool Plattes Files Locations on the Files tab in Options. Make sure it is pointing to the folder that you expect and make sure you don't have additional paths added.

    D'OH!

Oops, I was using the wrong profile that had 2 paths (C:/ and network path) for the tool palettes file locations.

I set the correct admin profile current and it works just like it is supposed to again!

    Thanks Jeff!

Unhappy Re: Drag & Drop into Pallete

We are having trouble with tool palettes, any help would be greatly appreciated.

We created numerous tool palettes which are in a centrally located file on our server. We renamed the folders on our server and now we cannot drag from the tool palette into the drawing.

We can see all the icons, but they do not function when we drag & drop. Any ideas??

You will need to change the path that each tool points to.

The long way is to right-click on each tool and change the path in the properties.

The quicker way is to do a search and replace in the .ATC files in the Palettes folder. You can use any ASCII text editor to edit the files.

I just had to change the paths for all our tools (500+). I used an inexpensive, down-loadable utility called Search and Replace for Windows from http://www.funduc.com/. This allowed me to do a search and replace on many files at once. Depending on how many ATC files you have this may be useful, maybe not.

Autodesk will say that you should not edit XML files directly. So I will say do so at your own risk and make sure you have a back-up copy.

I just copied to the clipboard [select hatch, and Ctrl C] the paste to the palette i wanted. made a nice box showing the hatch.

also it is always easier to create TP's in the order, and where they are going to reside [on the server] in the first place. going and changing these things after can create undesirable results.

I have found the XML Notepad an easy way to adjust the tab layout order [but not the tools/buttons order]. just make sure that AutoCAD is closed, or as Matt Murphy once said "you will break it"... good luck, ---Derek

you can also highlight the object, right click - copy or crtl-c and then right click paste on the palette
