Default Find and Replace Number Symbol

I recently tried to use the find and replace tool to replace the # sign with the word TRAY. I quickly realized that AutoCAD uses # as a wildcard for any number, and it replaced all numbers in my drawing with the word TRAY.

While I find it kind of comical, and was oh so grateful for the UNDO button, I'm wondering how I can get AutoCAD to replace # with something else, and not view it as a wildcard.

Have you tried putting a ` (reverse quote, the one below "~") in front of it?
I believe this is the wildcard trick to take what follows it literally.

    In your case:
    Find `#

    Replace with TRAY

    Bren,

I just tried this in mtext (2008 ) and it worked fine. Are using the quote at the top left of your keyboard?
