    Default ADT - ADA compliant?

Have you ever heard of or know of a way to have AutoCAD check in some form or fashion if your project is ADA compliant? And maybe spit that out in a report.

From the help file on fixtures within ADT:

DISCLAIMER: The intent of the fixture layouts is to provide samples from which to create your own office standards for rest room design. All of the components can be modified, as required, to meet project and code requirements, then added to the DesignCenter for access. The samples provided do not necessarily meet jurisdictional regulations or ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements.

In short ADT, still needs a human to know what's what.

We're considering putting a block in with our doors that will display the clearances required.

You can put a block in if you like for doors, but everybody knows that a 36" wide door is required to give the net 32" clear dimension. It should not be necessary to show a block for that.

Toilet rooms are another story, however. I believe ADT ships with a toilet layout that shows a 60" diameter circle for clearance. Code officials usually like to see the circle somewhere on the drawings. I have never had a code official ask me to draw a clearance block for the doors.

    Hi Tom,

That sounds intriguing. Would you be willing to share the block with the rest of us. Although, the block wouldn't be required for plotting, it might be nice to create a corresponding ADA display rep so that similar entities could be plotted/shown as desired for review.

    Thanks,

    RLB

RLB - When I get to that item on my list, I'll be happy to post the door.

cgraham - The clearance I'm refering to is not the 32" opening, but the 18" on the pull side x 60" back for a front approach. Similarly, you need a clear floor area 48" on the push side of doors.

While these clearances are not generally required, they are helpful for laying out a space to make sure not designing in any code violations.
