    Default Family Type Formula

Is it possible to access a view scale in a family formula? I am attempting to create a family that assists new architects in laying out dimensions, etc. Obviously this is scale dependent.

    Thanks,

No it isn't. What are you trying to do?

    Steve,

Basically I'd like to provide a tool for users that will create a series of lines that are offset from any object they might trace. These lines would represent the offsets for various levels of dimension strings, etc. So, let's say the first line offset from an architectural wall would be offset at 5/8" on a carrier sheet. The tool would have to take that 5/8" and use the view scale to determine the offset and then draft a line at that offset. The line would also need to be visible, but not plot.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Are you trying to create guidelines for dimensioning? Have you checked out the 'Dimension Line Snap Distance' dimension property yet?

    c-hawk,

I hadn't, but have attempted to use them per your suggestion. Is this there a seperate toggle to turn dimension line snaps on and off. I can find the settings in the properties, but once I set it the dimensions still don't snap.

    Thanks

The dimension line snap distance is a type parameter of the dimension style. Keep in mind that it won't control where that first dimension string is placed but it will snap subsequent parallel strings into place at the set distance. Also remember that the snap distance is in plotted units i.e. how far apart the lines will be, regardless of the view scale.
