    Question Rebar Detail Component

I am working on detail component families for different bend conditions. It is basically a series of families for hooks so we can match Revit's *ahem* awesome looking white filled 3d rebar. The hook lengths are all dependent on the bar diameter and I had no problem getting the 90 and 180 degree bends to work the way i wanted but I am having a difficult time getting my 135 degree hooks to work right. I have been drawing everything at #4 bar because the 1/2" diameter is easy to work with and then I'll just make new types when I get everything working right, but on my 135 degree bends whenever i switch views to a different type I keep getting error messages saying my constraints are invalid or it cant draw my filled region. I suspect it has something to do with dimensions going to an arc and I wanted to see if anyone else has run into this. I can't post a screen shot until Monday but was hoping someone might be able to answer this off the top of their head. If I don't get any response I will put up a few images of the various reference plane and dimension locations i have tried so far.

    Thanks,

I think it's better if you post your detail component family. I'm sure you'll get better feedback that way. Are you using ref. lines to get your rotation to happen correctly? If not, try your hand at that first.

One of our engineers figured out how to get it to work using a cosign equation to keep the bend constrained and by breaking the rebar into multiple filled regions.

Here are the detail components that I created if you don't want to create your own. They are set up similar to the rebar tool in that they will show as a single line for coarse and medium, but show as a double line for a fine view.

As far as the error message I got that as well and the way I over came it was to put and invisible line from the center of the arc to the edge that way it kept the arc anchored in the right spot.

    Hey,
Thanks for sharing your reinf bar families. Very much appreciated.
I created another one based on your family - a bar with a hook as a z:ed at one end. We use this one quite a lot at slab steps etc.
Do you know if it is possible to create a bar like this with the 3D bar? I have another post about it here http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=74004

    Thanks again

Hard to think after all these years that this has not ended up in Revit yet. Thanks so much for posting this, big help!
