    Default Curtain Wall Doors

    Hello,

    I am wondering how the reference planes in the Curtain Wall Door Family Template are connected to the extents of the curtain panel in a project - as there are no width or height parameters indicated. The OOTB curtain wall doors seem to "magically" adjust themselves to the size of the curtain wall panel.

    The reason I'm wondering is I want to modify the way the door appears in plan so that it shows some thickness, but I'm not sure how to assign a dimension or parameter to my new symbolic lines, so that the width of the panel swinging out is the same as the width of the curtain wall panel in the project.

    A similar problem arises when I try to assign a parameter to the swing angle.

    All curtain wall panels use the outside reference planes, left, right, top bottom to determine extents, rather Revit uses those planes, so don't screw with them! As curtain panel's dimensions are essentially instance based it is important to keep that in mind when desiging a flexible curtain wall panel. Thankfully, you can use the EQ feature on a dimension string to always have a reference plane defining the center of your door, this can be useful when creating double doors. From there it is a matter of constraining your objects with instance based dimensions that can flex inteligently with the panel. For instance if you're developing a swing, you can lock the end point of the swing to one edge or the center, allowing it to adjust, dynamically. Same goes for any other geometry. If you're developing the thickness of a door, you can base it around the center front back reference plane, or you can create an offset from the center reference plane that allows the user to adjust the door loction relative to the center line of the curtain wall.

    To control the swing angle you will probably want to use a reference line. Once again the trick to everything is converting the dynamic dimension into a constraint that is useful, without being able to write a formula or ever knowing specifically what the dimension is. It can be done!

    I'm simply trying to add a symbolic line to represent the door thickness. I'm just modifying the default "Curtain Wall Sgl Glass" that comes OOTB. What I can't seem to figure out is how to constrain the symbolic line to flex with the panel size? There is already the one single line that works fine, but when I select it I don't see what it's referenced to that keeps it inline with the swing line.

    Attached is a shot showing an exaggerated view of the same door inserted into two different sized panels. You can see that the interior line does not flex with the panel size. That is the problem I'm having.
    Any help?

    Align and lock the outer edge of your new sybolic line (use Tab to select the endpoint) to the line that already flexes as desired.

    I gave that a shot, but couldn't get it to work. When I would click align, select the endpoint of the line that flexes, and then click the line that I want to flex, it says that the element is too short. So, I'm not sure how to align endpoints. I can choose an endpoint as the initial align object, but I can't choose an endpoint as the second object.
    What I did end up doing for this case was to just copy the line that currently flexes. That seems to work.
    Now, if I want to show lines in plan that represent the threshold of an exterior door, how can I get those lines to flex to the curtain wall thickness?
    I think I might be able to create a Mullion that is the profile of a threshold, but have yet to try it...
