Thumbs down AutoCAD 2008 Annotation status bar

AutoDesk have done it again - introduced a new tool / feature that takes up screen real estate space but doesn't let those that prefer the screen to be less cluttered to turn this off.

I refer to the Annotation status bar.
I can turn each individual icon off but am left with a blank bar.

Does anyone know how to turn the status bar off.
Help doesn't enlighten on this part of annotation control.

To let us shrink it like the command window would be acceptable, or to just kill it altogether.
Any volunteers, I'll bring the ammo.

    Thanks, but not too optimistic.

I'm not familiar with this status bar, just yet. Can you describe it a little more? Where is it normally located on your screen?

    Have you tried CLEANSCREENON?

Format>Options>Display Tab> deselect the "Display Drawing Status Bar" check box.

The status bar has been there for several versions, I think all windows versions. It is not new for 2008. They did add some annotation commands to the status bar in 2008.

On the right side of the status bar is a small down arrow. Pick the arrow to open a menu of status bar choices. You can turn off individual status bar commands, including annotation, but not the entire status bar. You can also toggle the "Drawing Status Bar" from here.

Thumbs up Re: AutoCAD 2008 Annotation status bar

Thanks for 3 responses so quickly.

I am not on about the status bar at the bottom of the screen with the down arrow.
I am on about the status bar which is just below the page layout tabs.
    See screen shot attached.

There is no down arrow to select any control, you just right click on it to get a list of items to tick or not - but there is no master tick to turn this status bar off.

    The help:
Format>Options>Display Tab> deselect the "Display Drawing Status Bar" check box.
worked, so thanks for that. I guess the brighter and more colourful annotation icons really brought it to my attention - never noticed it before.
And, how confusing to put a tick control item on the lower status bar to control the display of the upper status bar.

Anyway. Problem solved. Thanks for the answers.

No wonder why I was confused. I have mine unchecked.
