Default Drawing Sheet Notes - A Different Approach

    Hey there,

This is a different method of placing drawing sheet notes on a title block sheet.
(The traditional method has been to simply "copy and paste" your notes from WordPerfect, MS Word or other text editor; however, you lost any formating other than the first paragraph indent after the number. Secondly, if you have a column of text which is longer than your sheet, you have to "cut and paste" or paste another column and delete text in order to carry over into the next vertical column of you sheet.)

This method was shown at AU2007 in T.J. Meehan's "Templates" course:

    Create a "keyed schedule", then,
Set your columns for a number and another column for your text.
Copy and paste your text into the text column, one by one. (A little bit of a pain; but worth it maybe!)
Once you have all of your notes pasted, with the number......sort by number and put it on your sheet. You then can adjust the length of the rows and, because they are schedules, you can now split your schedule in the event that the schedule is longer than the sheet.

The only other advice which was mentioned is:
If you have to go back and edit your schedule, you may want to do your actual editing in the original text document rather than in your schedule. Then, just paste it back in again. (Remember, schedules only place text in one long text box without any word wrapping. Kinda hard to see the whole note.)

What you get now is a nice looking set of notes, where each paragraph is "paragraph indented" and the length and width is very controllable.

Thanks to T.J. Meehan at AU!
    Steve

Will the spell check work with this?

How is this easier than just using 2 blocks of text beside each other; 1 for the numbers, 1 for the notes? The notes will wrap if you change the width. You just need to add blank lines between the numbers so they'll line up with the text. If you want the lines of each schedule cell to show up, this would be worth it. (I hate the idea of having to go back and forth - I'd rather fight the text a little bit directly in Revit). Now, if there were a table feature, with excel linked into it. . . .

    Hey there,
That is certainly another approach. I didn't say it was easier, I just said it was another option for those folks who wanted a bit more control over the paragraph indent format.
    Thanks for the input.

I think this approach works well - but can you make certain words within the key schedule bold?

    Hey there,
When I played with this, I noticed that you can't use spell check in a schedule, nor change just one word's font style in a schedule, ie, bold etc.
But, it was recommended that you do all of your actual typing and edit work in the word processing program that you used to generate the schedule.

    Good luck

I came up with a solution to the 'can't indent' It is more like an illusion, but it will work...

start by Create 4 numbering columns... and then your text columns

First column will be hidden so you can put in the numbers and sort the rows correctly. (add a few more blanks then you need so when you can't remember you have a hidden column and time is short you can at least put in a few new items.)

Second column will be a number

Third column will be any letters

Fourth column will be a number again

and then a column with the note.

It works like the way word formats tabbed numbered bullets. And you can control the indents by resizing a column.

    Ex 01a1

'01' will be in the second column 1st row
a' will be in the third column 2nd row
'1' will be in the 4th column 3rd row.
You can put in dots on the empty slots on the right of your number or letter. Kind of like below

    01..TEXT NOTE
    a.TEXT NOTE
    1.TEXTNOTE

The problem with this is that you note column will still be in line, but at least you can create the illusion of an indented text...

I say forget Revit's text editor, do it in cad and link it in.

We have been asking for a text editor for years, I'm sure the factory is working on it - Maybe 2013

It's 2013 and the text editor is still terrible.
